- Launch of Cheapjack at the Essex Book Festival
Cheapjack is Philip Allingham's record of his time on the fairs, first as a fortune teller, later selling hair wavers. This reprint of the 1934 original will be launched at the Essex Book Festival with a talk by Francis Wheen and Julia Jones. There will also be a tour of the Allingham/Youngman Carter archive and a buffet meal for a limited number of visitors. Details and tickets from the Essex Book Festival site - Saturday 17th April 2010
- Regent Street Polytechnic
Now the University of Westminster, both Margery and Pip were educated here. There will be a tour of the building and the students will perform a programme of material written by Margery Allingham during her student years. - Saturday 22nd May 2010
- Annual General Meeting and Birthday Lunch
at the University Women's Club, 2 Audley Square, London W1K 1DB, followed by the Birthday Lunch. The speaker will be Christopher Fowler, author of the Bryant and May series. - The AGM starts at 11:00 and the lunch at 12:30.
- Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th September 2010
- Suffolk Convention
The Holiday Inn, Ipswich will be the venue for the weekend in Suffolk, Starting at dinner on Friday evening and finishing with lunch on Sunday, the weekend will include talks by Mike Ripley, Dr Jennifer S. Palmer, Julia Jones and Richard Cheffins; a tour around Margery's Suffolk locations; Who Killed Cock Robin: a mystery competition set by Margery for readers of the Sunday Times in 1938; a showing of the 1950 film of Room to Let and other events.
